This term brought with it an incredibly exciting anniversary for LHS – 100 Years of Tableaux – a much-cherished part of our School`s history that began under the headship of Miss Bristol. Performers hold stationary poses, often imitating works of art or dramatic scenes from history or literature, whilst visual and lighting effects bring the stage to life, accompanied by a stunning soundtrack from a choir of singers. Here`s a look back at the incredible performances!🎄🎭

Last Thursday, the Department of Modern Languages at @lborogrammar hosted a delightful Spanish Christmas lunch for Year 12 and Year 13 Spanish students from both LHS and LGS. The Spanish food on offer was absolutely delicious, and everyone had a wonderful time celebrating the festivities!

During November, our Junior and Senior Debating Societies have been discussing some key issues focused on the impacts of climate change and the effectiveness of the annual Conference of the Parties (COP 30), now in its 30th year. Speakers at both our Junior and Senior debating societies prepare their arguments independently, conducting their own research based on their interest and passion for the topic. The quality of the arguments produced is testament to their understanding of how a debate is structured and the best ways in which to convey a clear message.

@lborohigh alumna, Laura Gelder-Robertson (LHS, 1995) works to educate and enact profound change and transformation in tackling the climate emergency across business, society, communities, and schools. As a part of New Director`s Season, @lborogrammar and @lborohigh pupils have been hard at work rehearsing – remembering lines, gathering costumes, working on their staging and, most importantly, learning what it takes to direct a stage play! For our directors, this is an incredible opportunity to build confidence and see their work come to life on stage. Well done to all of this year`s directors and performers.

Tradition is an underlying theme of this year’s Tableaux as, new for 2025, the Wilton Diptych scene invites LHS alumnae back to the School to relive their memories of this experience. Initially a scene suggested by former Head Miss Harvatt (1978-2001), it will also be accompanied by composer, Kim Porter’s, A New Song – a piece commissioned especially for this scene. The alumni taking part met each other in a drinks reception yesterday to try on their handmade costumes and recreate the scene. We can`t wait to see this scene feature on the stage in this year`s performance.

Preparations for this years Tableaux are well underway and our pupils have been busy in rehearsals. From scene shifters who have been creating an ambient atmosphere to staff who have been curating the perfect poses and our Year 13 performers who have been learning their roles, our special 100 Year celebration of Tableaux is definitely taking shape.

A Level Physics students enjoyed an inspiring, live online talk from professionals working at Diamond Light Source – the UK`s national synchrotron science facility as part of their `Engineering Your Future` event. They explored the work of early-career engineers at Diamond, their projects, career paths, and passion for the sector. The talk expanded the horizons of girls interested in pursuing STEM careers and covered lots of interesting topics.@weareukri

Year 10 pupils enjoyed an Academic Extension Day last week with the theme of `Conflict and Resolution`. In the STEM session, students designed and constructed crumple zones for wooden toy cars to increase the time taken for a change in momentum and reduce the force acting on the car. The girls identified the conflict between the forces involved and created a resolution through testing and redesign. They also had an introduction to Model United Nations (MUN), a fantastic educational exercise in which pupils act as delegates representing a specific UN member country to debate and solve global issues!
