At Loughborough High School, girls in Years 9 to 13 have the opportunity to join the Voluntary Service Unit (VSU), a well-established and highly popular initiative within the school community. The VSU enables pupils to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others while gaining valuable personal experience.
Participation in the VSU is entirely voluntary, but it is embraced with enthusiasm by our senior students. The unit supports a wide range of activities designed to make a positive impact on the local community. Many pupils support younger children at Fairfield Prep School, and other local primary schools, often helping with reading sessions or creative activities such as art and crafts.
The VSU gives students the chance to establish partnerships, build rapport, develop empathy, and use their talents in a way that benefits others. It plays a vital role in promoting social responsibility, one of the core values of our school.
Members of the Voluntary Service Unit support pupils in local primary schools. Each year group decides on a charity and organises activities to support its work. Pupils raise money and organise practical activities, for example collecting clothing and hygiene products for local homeless people.
