Why Study Drama and Theatre?
You may be interested in acting, writing, or the technical aspects of theatre, or alternatively, you may have a desire to develop the transferable skills inherent in this creative subject, such as working collaboratively, communicating effectively, and using approaches from various disciplines. The course enables you to acquire knowledge and understanding of drama and theatre language, as well as performing and analytical skills.
Entry Requirements
We expect a Grade 7 in GCSE Drama and/or English. You must be prepared to articulate historical and political ideas, test your own ideas in a practical setting, and work collaboratively under pressure.
Course Content
The course has three components; devising; performing or designing skills such as lighting or costume; and practical exploration of texts to interpret them for performance. You will explore play texts, create theatre, perform plays, analyse theatre, and critically evaluate these elements. Specific texts include Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo and Woyzeck by Buchner.
Relevance
Drama and Theatre develops valuable ‘soft’ skills especially your emotional intelligence which includes empathy, active listening, effective communication, and the ability to adapt to change all of which are highly valued in all professions and careers.
Career versatility
An A Level in Drama and Theatre can lead to careers in creative industries, such as acting, stage management, or arts administration. However, it can also provide a strong foundation for careers in other fields, including politics, psychology, business, law, and the sciences.

The course develops a range of skills including collaboration, problem-solving and higher order thinking. This is achieved through various projects that involve the process of transforming a creative idea or concept into a tangible, viable, dramatic product. Assessment
The course is assessed through a combination of written coursework, practical examinations, and one written exam at the end of Year 13. The three components are: Devising, Text in Performance, and Theatre Makers in Practice.
