Spotlight on Sport: February 2025

Sport sits at the heart of the Loughborough Schools Foundation campus, and we regularly witness a range of fantastic team and individual sporting achievements. Keep reading to find out more about what our talented athletes have been up to during the first half-term of 2025.

Football

Our U14 Girls football team triumphed in the Area Cup in January, finishing top of the table and advancing to the regional finals. They’ll be heading to Leicester City’s training ground in May for what promises to be an exciting showdown!

Hockey

The Senior Hockey team has made great cup progress throughout this half-term. In January, they travelled to Yarm for their T2 National Quarter Final and stormed to a 5-1 win, scoring three goals! This win not only puts the team into a third straight National Semi-Final, but also sets up a rematch with The Perse, who unfortunately knocked us out at the same stage last year. The girls are preparing hard in training, looking to get redemption and book their ticket to the National Final.

Netball

Congratulations to the U14 Netball team who made it through to the England Netball National Schools Regional Round. It was an extremely tough competition, and the girls finished third in the plate competition.

Individual Achievements

Cricket player, Prisha, has performed exceptionally well in the U19 World Cup in Malaysia at the beginning of this year. In England’s match against New Zealand, she took three wickets for the team and contributed to their victory! Having made it all the way to the semi-finals, Prisha’s phenomenal achievement has seen her gain valuable experience competing in a major international tournament.

Congratulations also go to our Year 7 badminton champion who won the U15 European competition in France last week – an incredible achievement!

Staff News

Former English first class cricketer, and Loughborough Schools Foundation coach, Mr Gidley is representing the England Over 50s at the Cricket World Cup in Sri-Lanka this month. We wish him and the team the best of luck!
