Half-Term Highlights: April 2025

From exciting art trips to charity fundraising and insightful talks from returning alumni, this half-term has been full of highlights.

Air rifle and laser pistol athletes gain valuable advice

We were delighted to welcome medal-winning sharpshooter Robyn (LHS 2024) back to the Schools to talk to our air rifle and laser pistol athletes during their senior Games lesson. During her visit, she gave an overview of the sport, answered many questions, and gave really useful individual coaching tips as we practised.

While at LHS, Robyn represented the Shooting Club and CCF teams in several competitions, including taking medals at the national finals of the British Shooting Schools Championships. Robyn was put forward for the British Shooting Pathway programme for Target Sprint – the sport that combines running and rifle shooting.

Since leaving the Walks, she has already gone on to win a National Series Championship, all the more impressive as she balances her time with her degree in Forensic Science and being a member of the Officer Training Corps.

Lessons beyond the classroom

Our Year 10 Art students enjoyed a fascinating trip to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Wakefield this term. To support their learning, they had an excellent time discovering the context behind the sculptures and gaining a wealth of inspiration to take back to the art studio.

Pupils studying Law at A Level were invited to attend a series of talks by Loughborough Grammar School alumnus and current second year Law student, Jaysol. Currently studying at Trinity college, Cambridge, Jaysol ran two sessions on both Law and applying to Oxbridge.

The interactive, discussion-style sessions were hugely insightful for our pupils who also had the chance to ask questions on the university application process, what it’s like to study Law and tips for writing a personal statement!

Fantastic fundraising efforts

We celebrated Comic Relief with a ‘best dressed’ competition! Form groups were challenged to dress as their favourite movie group, music band, group icons or take inspiration from films and we saw some fantastic themes including The Smurfs, Disney characters, the Barbie Movie and ancient Greece.
