175 Years of Inspirational Education

Tuesday 11 March 2025 was a day full of celebration as we marked the official 175th birthday of Loughborough High School. The afternoon saw the whole School gather on the Quad to capture a memorable aerial photograph as pupils and staff members stood together to form the number ‘175’. Followed by cupcakes on the lawn, the afternoon was a fantastic way to reflect upon our School’s long and cherished history.

As this is a truly special time for the School, we have activities planned throughout the year and have already enjoyed a handful of commemorative moments.

In January, our staff recreated an iconic photograph from 1964, and current Year 7 pupils had the opportunity to find out what life was like for their counterparts, known then as the ‘Upper Third’, in 1985. They looked at a document created by a previous generation of pupils who answered questions such as ‘what is the best thing about being an Upper Third?’, ‘where is your favourite place in the School?’ and ‘what have you enjoyed most this year?’ and enjoyed seeing how their answers differed!

We were delighted to welcome Baroness Morgan of Coates to Loughborough High in February, who shared inspiring insights from her life with our pupils. From studying Law at St Hugh’s College to becoming the first woman to chair the Treasury Select Committee, Baroness Morgan emphasised the importance of embracing new opportunities and stepping outside your comfort zone; an inspiring role model to our generation of future female leaders.

March has been a month of artistic excellence as both the Loughborough Schools Foundation’s Senior School Musical and annual Spring Concert took place.

Performed for the very first time in the Loughborough High School Hall, the production of Mary Poppins, aptly featuring an independent female lead, marked our anniversary and championed creativity.

Leicester’s De Montfort Hall housed the spectacular Spring Concert which featured seven solo performances and an exciting choral project by Year 7 pupils from across the Foundation. Featuring music by female composers, the concert’s talented musicians and beautiful orchestral compositions were an incredible way to celebrate the 175 years since our School first opened.

Whilst we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations so far, we have plenty more to come. From the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Review that’s just around the corner to marking 100 Years of Tableaux at the end of the year, we look forward to celebrating our wonderful School community and reflecting on our long and cherished history.
