The performing arts programme at Loughborough High School is a vibrant and inclusive part of school life, offering students a wide range of opportunities to explore drama, develop creativity, and build confidence. Through co-curricular clubs, workshops, and theatrical productions, pupils express themselves in new ways, whether by making friends, writing original scripts, or exploring their creativity on stage.
Students can take classes in Public Speaking, Acting, Verse and Prose, and Musical Theatre, with levels available from Grade 1 through to Diploma. These sessions help pupils build confidence, improve vocal and performance skills, and develop clear communication that supports success both on stage and in everyday life.

Lunchtime Drama Clubs
For Key Stage 3 students, our lunchtime drama clubs are a welcoming space to have fun, meet new people, and engage in drama games and improvisation. These clubs also feed into the House Drama Competition, held at the end of the academic year, for which all students are invited to audition and participate.

New Directors’ Season
The New Directors’ Season (NDS) is a student-led initiative that gives aspiring directors the opportunity to audition, cast, and rehearse their own productions. The season concludes with two public performance evenings, showcasing student creativity and leadership. NDS is run in collaboration with Loughborough Grammar School, giving students the chance to work with a wider range of peers.
Lower Schools’ Production
Students in Years 7 and 8 are invited to audition for the Lower School Production, which takes place in the summer term. This collaborative production with Loughborough Grammar School has featured titles such as The Little Mermaid, The Twits, Swallows and Amazons, and Bugsy Malone, offering students a memorable introduction to performance.

Middle Schools’ Production
For Years 9 and 10, the Middle School Production provides a platform to take on more ambitious roles and theatrical challenges. We annually take part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival performing at Curve, Leicester and have also worked with National Theatre Connections in the past performing at Derby Theatre. The experience helps students refine their performance and technical skills in a supportive, creative environment yet also in a professional setting.
Senior Schools’ Production
The Senior School Production, held each spring, is open to students in Years 11, 12, and 13. These productions are more advanced in scale and style, with previous performances including Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Blood Brothers, Grease, Oh What A Lovely War, Les Miserables and The Importance of Being Earnest. The production is a collaboration with our sibling school, Loughborough Grammar School, offering a high-quality, professional-style theatrical experience.

Performing at Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Sixth form students have the exciting opportunity to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival. This bi-annual trip in August gives students real-world experience of the performing arts industry while presenting work to a public audience. Past performances have included Chatroom, DNA, and Dahling You Were Marvellous, all of which received enthusiastic audience responses and enriched the students’ artistic journeys. We also invite alumni students back to write and direct performance pieces which has shown to be a huge success in the recent past.
London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) Tuition
As part of our commitment to excellence in performing arts, Loughborough High School offers professional LAMDA tuition across a variety of disciplines. Lessons are delivered by experienced tutors who bring a wealth of expertise, both as performers and as LAMDA examiners working internationally.
