Music Scholarships
Music Scholarships are available at 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Year 12).
We welcome applications from both internal and external candidates; an offer of a Scholarship is conditional on gaining entry to one of the Schools in the Loughborough Schools Foundation.
Music Scholarships are available by audition in January to exceptional practical musicians, whether instrumentalists or vocalists. They provide the framework for a comprehensive partnership between the pupil and the Music department.
Music Scholarships will be tenable for the duration of a pupil’s time at the Loughborough Schools Foundation, subject to annual review. They comprise individually tailored support with performance practice, music theory and aural skills, unrivalled ensemble experience and full access to the Enhanced Music Programme.
Scholars must be enthusiastic and able musicians, who can demonstrate their passion for the subject as well as their technical skill. They will be mentored throughout their time at School to ensure they become the best musicians that they can be. Competition for Scholarships is very fierce, and they are strictly limited in number. Based on audition, scholarships can carry up to 20% fee remission, and some discount to the cost of music lessons. Additionally, means-tested financial support can be applied for through our Music Tuition Assistance scheme in order to further fund individual music lessons; both scholars and non-scholars are eligible to apply for this funding.
The application deadline is Thursday 8 January 2026 and the audition dates are 15/16 January. If you have any questions regarding the music scholarships, please do not hesitate to contact the music department by email (music.office@lsf.org) or by telephone (01509 283770).

Sports Scholarship
There are two application points for our Sports Scholarships: Year 9 and Year 12. Recipients of the Year 9 Scholarship would need to re-apply for the Year 12 Scholarship. The Sports Scholarship comes with a fee remission of up to 20%. The exact amount will be at the discretion of the Head of the relevant School in consultation with the Director of Sport, based on the individual’s sporting ability and potential in the School’s major team sports. To be considered, applicants should be at least near selection for age-relevant representative and development pathways at county or regional level.

The School can also make limited funds available, according to financial need, to able pupils through the Schools Assisted Places Scheme. These awards are made based on academic merit in the Entrance Assessment and will involve a meeting at School with a member of the Bursary staff. We support as many applications as we can and, in 2024/25, several pupils received fee reductions.
Bursaries are means-tested awards given to support families whose child demonstrates academic excellence and wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford some, or all of, the school fees. Parents who notify us that they require financial assistance are invited to complete a bursary application form. Following a successful application, bursaries can range from 5% to 100% and are dependent upon a family’s financial circumstances. We do not publish guidance on qualifying income levels as each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. To qualify for financial support, families are expected to be doing everything they can to maximise their income before applying to the school for help.
An independent company will carry out a home visit to assist in the assessment of family circumstances. All applications are then considered by the Bursaries Committee, chaired by the Head.
Unfortunately, we cannot fund all of the applications we receive and so our Development Team is working hard with current supporters to try to grow our bursary funds still further.
For further information, please contact our Registrar.
School Assisted Places are also available for Year 12 entry on up to 50% of fees (larger bursaries may be available, dependent upon exceptional performance at GCSE). These are dependent upon performance in the GCSE examinations, parental income and a meeting at the School.
Years 7 – 11 Awards and Scholarships

Academic Scholarships
A number of honorary Scholarships are offered for entry into Year 7. Whilst our Scholarships no longer command any monetary value, we still have them in place as a formal record of excellence in the 11+ assessments across the Foundation. They are awarded based on academic merit and are dependent upon assessment performance. The scholarships are recognised as reward in itself for the hard work that students have undertaken before these assessments. Please note that there is no need to make separate applications to be considered for these awards.

Sporting Talent Award
Available to pupils entering Year 7 or Year 8 we are looking for pupils who demonstrate evidence of athletic ability and the aptitude to work hard, demonstrating self-motivation and a clear desire to compete and strive for success. Pupils applying for this award, will have advanced physical competences and movement skills, and will benefit from a high level of coaching. Our Sporting Talent Award entitles the successful applicant to a single award of £500 to enhance their sporting experience.

The Greasley Bursaries
Next Awarded: September 2026-27
With sincere thanks to alum Derek Greasley (LGS 1956), The Greasley Bursaries have been established to support prospective pupils of Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough High School.
Derek, who joined Year 7 at Loughborough Grammar School in 1948, left a life-changing donation in his Will to fund ‘The Greasley Bursaries’. Open to pupils from Charnwood, the bursaries will cover tuition fees and potentially other associated costs, meaning that recipients can fully immerse themselves in the academic and co-curricular opportunities from Year 7 through to Year 13 at Loughborough Grammar School or Loughborough High School.
The bursaries are awarded on academic merit and financial need to support a boy or girl who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend either school.
